Travelling to Brazil

According to recent reports, more than 180,000 British nationals visited Brazil last year, which is a record. The reason British citizens are vacationing in Brazil is simple-the country is home to some of the most exotic and exciting cities on earth, and the airfare and hotel accommodations are extremely affordable. This is a welcome change in the midst of a prolonged recession that is still affecting most of the UK.

But before you slip on your Sunga or Chinelo, it is important to learn a bit about the culture and possibly even the language. For example, those foreign words we just used are Portuguese, since the country was colonized by them in the 16th century. They mean swimming trunks and flip flops, which are quite common for tourists and locals alike in Brazil.

However, learning a few Portuguese words and dressing like the locals may not be enough to keep you safe. The fact is that crime and violence are quite high in many of the country’s largest cities. This is especially true during the festive and Carnival periods. So, if you choose to stay at home and take a day trip in a Sterling caravan that will likely be a whole lot safer. (more...)
